Linking sales and payments to a customer
How agreed sale price, payments, sold-by attribution, and the outstanding balance feed into a customer record from the vehicle side.
A customer record in ImportOps is a contact. The sale itself: agreed price, deposits and payments, sold-by attribution, outstanding balance, lives on each vehicle. The customer detail page then rolls up totals across every vehicle linked to them.
This article is a map. Each piece of sale data has a dedicated article in Vehicles & Pipeline; the links below take you to the right place.
Why sales live on the vehicle, not the customer
Every sale belongs to a specific vehicle. The same customer can buy multiple vehicles, and each sale has its own agreed price, its own deposit and final payment schedule, and its own seller attribution. Holding this data per vehicle means nothing gets conflated and reporting stays clean.
Linking a customer to a vehicle
From the vehicle's detail page, use Allocate customer on the Customer Sale tab. You can pick an existing customer or create a new one on the spot. Full walkthrough in the Vehicles & Pipeline article Allocating a customer to a vehicle.
Agreed sale price
Set on the Customer Sale tab once a price is locked in. This is what the customer pays, and it's what the Outstanding balance is calculated from. Covered in Recording vehicle costs.
Payments
Each deposit or full payment is recorded on the Customer Sale tab as its own row with amount, method (card, bank transfer, cash, cheque, other), kind (deposit, part payment, full payment), and date. Payments reduce the outstanding balance automatically. Covered in Recording vehicle costs.
Sold-by attribution
The team member who handled the sale is recorded against the vehicle, on the Customer Sale tab. This drives sales reports. Covered in Allocating a customer to a vehicle.
How the customer page rolls this up
On the customer detail page:
- The Payments card shows Outstanding and Total paid summed across every vehicle linked to the customer.
- The Vehicles table shows the same totals per vehicle.
There's nothing to enter here. Both come from each vehicle's Customer Sale tab and update automatically.
